Water-Cooled CPU Coolers: Processes and Materials

浏览: 发表时间:2020-08-29 11:57:22

1. Material Selection:

  • Radiator: The radiator is primarily made of aluminum or copper. Aluminum radiators are lightweight and cost-effective, making them suitable for mainstream products, while copper radiators, known for their excellent thermal conductivity, are often used in high-end products.
  • Water Block: The water block is typically made of copper or nickel-plated copper to ensure good thermal conductivity with the CPU contact surface. The internal design of the water block includes microchannels to enhance cooling efficiency.
  • Tubing: The tubing is usually made of PVC, TPU, or silicone, offering properties such as high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, and flexibility. High-end products may use braided tubing for added durability and protection.
  • Coolant: The coolant is typically a mixture of distilled water, ethylene glycol, corrosion inhibitors, and dyes. Distilled water provides excellent thermal conductivity, ethylene glycol prevents the coolant from freezing at low temperatures, corrosion inhibitors prevent internal rust and bacterial growth, and dyes are used for aesthetic and identification purposes.

2. Manufacturing Processes:

  • Radiator Manufacturing: The radiator manufacturing process involves extruding aluminum or copper tubes, assembling and welding fins. The fins are precisely designed to maximize the heat dissipation area, ensuring optimal cooling performance.
  • Water Block Machining: The water block is machined using CNC technology to create precise microchannels, ensuring accurate and consistent water flow paths. Copper or nickel-plated copper materials are polished to reduce surface roughness, improving thermal conductivity.
  • Tubing Cutting and Assembly: Tubing is precisely cut according to the system layout and is connected to the radiator and water block using compression fittings or threaded connectors to ensure a leak-proof seal.
  • Coolant Filling: After the system is assembled, the coolant is injected using vacuum filling technology to remove air from the system, ensuring that the coolant fully fills the tubing and avoids air bubbles that could affect cooling performance.

3. Mounting Brackets and Pressure:

  • Bracket Design: The brackets for water-cooled CPU coolers are typically made of steel or high-strength plastic to ensure durability and resistance to pressure. The design of the brackets varies depending on the platform (e.g., Intel or AMD) and must provide even pressure to ensure a tight fit with the CPU.
  • Mounting Pressure: The mounting pressure of the water cooler brackets is crucial. Too little pressure can lead to poor contact, while too much pressure can damage the CPU or motherboard. The standard pressure is typically set between 60-80 PSI (pounds per square inch) to ensure optimal cooling performance.

Overall, these contents are primarily intended for technical communication, process training, or product display, to help customers, partners, or internal personnel better understand and apply cooling products.
