1. Material Selection:

  • Heatsink Fins: Heatsink fins are commonly made of aluminum or copper. Aluminum fins are widely used due to their light weight and cost advantages, while copper fins are used in high-end coolers for their superior thermal conductivity.
  • Heat Pipes: The outer shell of heat pipes is typically made of copper, and the internal liquid is usually water, ethanol, or other volatile fluids that use phase change to transfer heat.
  • Base Plate: The base plate is usually made of copper and is polished to increase contact area with the CPU, thereby improving thermal conductivity.

2. Manufacturing Processes:

  • Heatsink Manufacturing: Heatsink fins are manufactured through stamping, bending, or extrusion processes and are then connected to the base plate or heat pipes through soldering or press-fitting. Soldering often uses vacuum brazing technology to ensure secure connections and optimal thermal performance.
  • Base Plate Machining: The base plate is machined using CNC technology to create a flat, smooth contact surface. It is then polished and nickel-plated to further improve thermal exchange efficiency with the CPU.
  • Heat Pipe Manufacturing: The heat pipe manufacturing process involves precise control of the internal capillary structure and the amount of liquid injected to ensure optimal performance in various operating environments.

3. Mounting Brackets and Pressure:

  • Bracket Design: The brackets for air-cooled CPU coolers are also designed to be sturdy and durable, typically made of steel or high-strength plastic. The design must ensure the cooler is securely mounted on the motherboard and provides even pressure.
  • Mounting Pressure: The mounting pressure for air-cooled CPU coolers is also critical, typically designed to be between 50-70 PSI to ensure optimal contact between the base plate and the CPU surface. This pressure ensures efficient heat transfer without damaging the CPU.
